What do you think about the transgender bathrooms that Mayer Annise Parker is proposing for all of Houston?

MonzaRacer (Admin) --- 9 years ago -

I don't have a problem with it as long as there are still men, and women bathrooms also...

Pepper --- 9 years ago -

To be honest, I don't really have a problem with it either.

However, I can understand how others might.

The LGBT Ordinance is government intrusion and progress elitism in an ugly little package. It's not limited to transgender bathrooms. Also, if there aren't separate restrooms young girls could find themselves in a restroom or locker room with a man who "feels" like a woman.

A business or church could be fined by the city because their 1st Amendment right to disagree with the homosexual lifestyle is trumped.

Finally, this ordinance was fast-tracked by our lesbian mayor. The intent was to pass the ordinance before finding out what was in the ordinance!

Here's a reply from City Council Woman Brenda Stardig from District A. She summarizes the problem with this ordinance very well.

Thank you for your recent email about the proposed equal rights ordinance. While most Houstonians and I agree that discrimination of any kind is wrong, this proposed ordinance does nothing more than duplicate existing laws, add bureaucracy, and highlight the city's endless overstepping of their jurisdiction.

The real question is not whether or not someone should be discriminated against. The real question is: What is the proper role of municipal government? Cities are created to provide basic services such as water, sewer, fire and police protection, and infrastructure. Cities are not created to govern comprehensive issues like discrimination. We have different levels of government for a reason, and it is imperative that each level does not exceed their jurisdiction.

If passed, this ordinance would create a new bureaucracy for the city to address discrimination complaints. Houston would have to expand government to handle the same issues already funded for and overseen by the state and federal government. It is incomprehensible to me how the city can waste our time and your tax dollars to duplicate these services. There are still pot holes, road repairs, and additional police and fire needs to which your city tax dollars should be allocated.

Cities should stick to what they were created to do. I was elected to represent my district on city matters, and I will not stand for the city overstepping their authority.

Sincerely,
Brenda Stardig
Houston City Council Member, District A

The transgender part of the proposal has been dropped by the mayor.

She will try again. Just give her time!!!

I'm not liking it one bit, but as usual I can't do anything about it. IF they insist on having transexuals/transgenders and anyone who wants to claim or pretend to be, have access to the womens/mens bathrooms, then they need to set up lots of private bathrooms. I am not comfortable being in a bathroom with a male in the next stall, don't care if he is or isn't a tranny. I am sure no male would be staring at the old lady in the bathroom, but thinking of myself when I was younger, I would not have been comfortable, so I'm sure many females of many ages, would not want a male in the bathroom with them.

For those who think men who are not homosexual would not want to be in a woman's bathroom -- guess again. Some pervs like to drill holes in walls, set up cameras in various locations, glue cameras or mirrors to their shoes...many techniques to get a glimpse of a female anatomy. Why? Because they can - so why wouldn't they pretend to be a transexual/gender to get lots of look/sees. But the dim/libs don't look at things with logic - they just want to be FAAAAAIIIIIIRRRRRR!!!!!

In the new Kroger on Northpark they have gender neutral bathrooms...1 stall & a locking door. It's also the handicap and baby changing bathroom. I don't know if they have other bathrooms in the store, can't imagine that 2 stalls/bathrooms will be enough for such a big store, but at least I can lock the door.

I can see that a predator would make that claim to be in a bathroom with a little girl. I didn't let our young son go to the bathroom alone until he was 10, then I stood outside the bathroom and timed him. If he didn't come out I would open the door and holler for him to hurry. Yes, I was over protective, but I didn't want any perv to touch our son. I was usually the one taking him and the daughter to the movies - I watched over them like a hawk. Same with the grandsons. I didn't trust people then and I trust them even less now.

It's a strange, strange world we live in now....very strange.

Why do we have to make special accommodations for butch women and guys in skirts? People need to get over themselves and stop being such freaks.

rightwingmom --- 9 years ago -

The attempt by our progressive mayor to get this passed in secret should also concern people! It's only because of grassroots movements like Texas Values that this dirty little secret was expose! (pun intended)

Don't forget, under this ordinance churches and businesses could STILL be charged $500/day for non-compliance like not renting a facility for a homosexual events.

This is NOT about anti-discrimination, it's about government over reach and CONTROL!

One more thing ~
IF the transgender restrooms/locker rooms HAD become a reality and perverts had taken advantage of this liberal stupidity, where would the violated young girls go for help? Annise Parker's girlfriend runs the LARGEST abortion clinic in the nation...Planned Parenthood on I 45 south! (Let that simmer for a few minutes.)

I totally understand! My boys may have been older, 12ish. When they were young enough they would go into the restroom with me. They knew how to act in the ladies room. They would do their business and wash their hands and go stand in the corner till I was done. I just hate it when women let their little boys peek through the cracks while I'm trying to pee. My sons would never do that.

When they go older I would stand outside the men's room and watch everyone who went in.

noooooo....i do not like transgender bathrooms at all. seems as though when i drop my pants to hover over the potty to pee, there is always some mans pee on the floor and my pants get wet with their pee. lol

TexasOma (Mod) --- 9 years ago -

^^^another reason!!!!^^^^^

But, it's not just men who pee or poop on the seats...sometimes it's just nasty, nasty women or kids.

I cannot understand anyone being so nasty in their bathroom habits. And then, when I see young children in a public toilet crawling on the floor, crawling under the stall doors, then walking out without washing their hands, my stomach turns. There is no wonder why we have so many rampant diseases and sicknesses going around.

I try to never touch a door handle in a public bathroom - if there are no paper towels, I use my pinky finger to open the door then when I get to my car I pull out the wipes and clean my hands. I'm not a germaphobe, but with public bathrooms I come close to being one.

I hate to even think about it!

If a person doesn't know what the hell they are, go potty at home!

So....Annise got her way.
11 - 6 in favor of the LGBT Ordinance.

ALL HAIL THE LESBIAN PROGRESSIVE QUEEN!

BTW - If part (b) of the restroom/locker room section survived, cross-dressing men will be allowed into women's restrooms and locker rooms! Make way for the perverts to take advantage of liberal stupidity!
