What would you do if a friend had a bad habit that is so repulsive that you felt physically ill just being with her?

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

Tell us the habit so we can decide the outcome.

Digs finger into ear to retrieve ear wax, then based on its smell, either flicks it or eats it.

Sorry, I know you can't unread that last sentence, but you asked for it!

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

Are we talking abuut an adult!?

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

Haha, I'm sorry but if it were a friend of mine I know I would say something about it!

Froggie --- 11 years ago -

ohmygawd!!!

I'd HAVE to say something!! Sounds like a habit that carried over from childhood...tho I've not heard of this one, At any rate...say something since it obviously bothers you (it would me too)

= \

FANCY PANTS --- 11 years ago -

That's just gross! I would have to say something. Because of this I would think this person has not attracted any prospective mates. What a turn off!

I might be wrong but for some reason I think this must be a man.

You can call me Michelle --- 11 years ago -

Okay so the general consensus is to say something, but what in the World would you say!?!

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

I would say something also. I would wait until the next incident (both the smelling and the flicking/eating) and ask..."Janie, do you realize how nasty that is? It nauseates everyone who sees you do this and you need to stop. Do you even know you are doing this?"

Pepper --- 11 years ago -

Depending on how close of a friend she is, that's apt to be one of those "slippery slope" conversations.

It could go well and she appreciated that you brought it up, or she could take exception to it and your friendship takes an awkward twist.

Regardless, however; I agree with everyone else that I'd probably mention it ... when the timing is right.

Good luck ...

rightwingmom --- 11 years ago -

You could go the health angle. Ear wax is the accumulation of dirt and who knows what else! You usually get larger build up when you're sick too.

Sorry for the posting below, but Mary Katherine from SNL was the first thing I thought of when I read what your friend does. (Not that she looks like her, but...)

OMG are you kidding me? Tell her she is grossing you out.

FANCY PANTS --- 11 years ago -

I agree! You have to be kind of blunt in a kind way. It will be hard not to hurt her feelings but it is necessary.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

Just be honest but blunt. I agree.

If she can't stop herself then you have to draw the line and tell her that you can't hang out until she controls her ear habits. Nasty.

AuthorMan (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Okay so the general consensus is to say something, but what in the World would you say!?!

I would just tell her I hope I am never in the restroom when she is dumping!

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

There really isn't any proper way of telling someone there habit is repulsive! Be blunt and a bit sensitive at the same time.

Btw....let us know how it goes! 👍😊

Smoochie and the Bean --- 11 years ago -

Oh I am going to hate this! I'll update yall...eventually.

Smoochie and the Bean --- 11 years ago -

Whoops lol

Froggie --- 11 years ago -

=D

?????

You can call me Michelle --- 11 years ago -

It could take me a little while to want to have that conversation but I guess I have to. Anyone want to trade bodies with me for a bit? That would be super.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Hopefully you are close enough friends with this person to be able to influence a change. It really is a gross habit and the person may have never been told that it's inappropriate.

Good luck...please let us know how it turns out.
