I'm heading out on Saturday, November 8th, for my annual deer hunting trip with my son and I'm getting really excited.

Unlike last January, I don't think we're in any danger of a Polar Vortex swooping down from the north and dropping the temperatures into the minus digits ... that was frikin' miserable!

Plus, this year we're renting an RV camper and will park it about 2 miles from his property in Missouri, so if it gets too cold, I can walk to the camper for some heat and hot chocolate, or a beer if that's my fancy.

He's already shot 3 deer this year (2 in Kansas and 1 in Missouri) and he's saving his buck tag for when I get up there.

So, their season has already opened? I think ours starts closer to Thanksgiving, not for sure since I don't hunt.

Have fun, stay safe, stay warm.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

Oma ... he's a bow hunter and the season for archery opened mid-Septemter for Kansas and Missouri.

Rifle season opens the latter part of November, early December ... there abouts'.

Unlike last January, I intend to stay warm instead of freezing my "you know what off" ... damn, that was miserable!

I would have to shoot the deer and stick an arrow in the bullet hole. (:-)

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

^^^ That's exactly what I'd have to do, too ^^^

LOL

I think bow season here opens in large October...at least out in West Texas. Last year we went to Concan, near Garner State Park. There were so many bow hunters...everywhere we stopped to eat there were people in camo. Our friend we were visiting told us they were there for bow hunting.

When I hunt with my son, I have to use a special "non odor soap", a "non odor shampoo" and a "non odor toothpaste",

God forbid if I eat snickers in the tree blind ... much less a peanut butter jelly sandwich.

That'd be the kiss of death ...

And all of our clothes have to be washed in a "non odor" detergent ...

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

That's a lot of washing just to get a deer.

Up at our place in Montgomery, I walk up to about 20 feet from deer when I walk the dogs. They just stand there and look at me looking at them. I don't bathe in anything special...just Dial soap. They love my for who I am. hahahaha

Bring on deer season! My freezer's getting low.

Move me some venison...especially chicken fried back strap! YUM!

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

Got my gear all packed up and I'm ready to hit the road in the morning.

First stop is Kansas and then on to Missouri!

No Internet service, no phone service ... I'm outa here!

See ya'll in two weeks ... er' chat with ya'.

Have a great, yet safe trip and good luck on the hunting part...

Have a wonderful trip and take your long-handles, the weather guessers are saying we are going to have some seriously cold weather to the north of here....like Missouri and Kansas. Gonna be brrrrrrr!!!!

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

We're camped about 15 miles outside of Chillicothe, MO and the temperature was in the upper 60's this afternoon, but it's falling fast right now. It's forecast to be 30 degrees in the morning when we head out to the Deer stand. Brrrrrrr!!!

The good news is my son got a nice 8 point buck 10 minutes into the day this morning.

Brace yourself Kingwood, this weather is heading your way!

We've still got 4 more days of hunting to do unless it becomes unbearable.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

We are suppose to be in the mid 30's on Friday morning. I ain't liking this at all.

Have fun and stay warm.

Good thing you didn't try posting over the weekend, Adam's sites went down. We all need to find another way to keep in touch for when it finally goes completely down.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

Got back to town early this morning around 2:00 a.m..

The weather system that swooped down from the north earlier this week, made last January's Polar Vortex feel like a nice Spring day!

Despite the temperatures, we had a fantastic hunt and made lots of Father / Son memories.

We originally planned to hunt through today, but the temperatures were simply too cold!

Next year we'll hunt in either late September, or early October.

MonzaRacer (Admin) --- 8 years ago -

Glad you had a good time...

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

Welcome home. I sure hope you left all that awful cold up there.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

Here's a couple of pictures I took of our hunting trip. We were really "roughing" it in the camper.

If anyone finds the pictures of the deer disturbing, let me know and I'll delete them.

Well, apparently I did something in the privacy settings in Photobucket that deleted the pictures.

I'll try again ...

So, are you going to go hunting here in Texas too?

I do like the 'roughing it' ...no way would I go back to tent camping...been there done that...too old for that now. My idea of roughing it is La Quinta with a king size bed and big screen tv.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

No, Oma ... I'm not the hunter I used to be.

I enjoy tagging along with my son as an observer.

Oma, this is my idea of "roughing it" ...

I use to do camper camping...I'm took lazy to even do that.

Give me a nice hotel room or on a cruise ship if I can't be home in my own bed.
