Beginning yesterday morning, I've been having a lot of problems downloading websites from my iPad. Laptop and desktop seem to run fine ...

My service is through Centurylink -via- DSL and I'm curious to know if others are experiencing the same thing.

When their offices open I'm going to call them to see if it's just me, or if they're having some system issues.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I've been having problems all day yesterday and now this morning. It's especially bad when I use google as my search engine, open google chrome, try to open gmail or my google calendar.

But, when i go to IE and I use Bing to search, I have no problems at all. I can open websites on FF without a problem at all...it is it's usual slower than molasses. They tell me I'm at the end of the line and they will not be upgrading anytime soon...like never.

I hate CenturyLink, but the only alternative for internet is Suddenlink and I've used them before --- they suck eggs. Never again will we use them...even though CenturyLink sucks baby eggs.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

I've been with Centurylink since Ike and this is the first time I've had Internet issues.

Google doesn't load (Bing seems to be okay), my mail on AOL doesn't download, my messaging programs fail to send messages, links from the different news websites don't connect, etc. etc. etc.

Oma, did you talk to Centurylink and they denied having problems and your issues are simply because you're at the end of the grid?

I haven't called them yet, but I will soon ...

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I haven't talked to them today. The end of the line excuse is their usual response, even when they come here in person. It's a BS response, but that's all I get from them.

I was going to clear my cache and cookies then reboot. I'll let you know if that works.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

That seemed to fix the google problems. It's slow, but at least it connects.

Unfortunately all my saved logins were removed so I have to go log in to everything again....Yeah, I know, sooo much trouble!!!! :-)

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I lied.....it worked for a little bit, then it started acting stupid again.

I can't keep deleting cache & cookies to keep google & gmail & chrome working. I wonder what the deal is?

I'll be heading to the lake this evening & up there I use my neighbor's wifi...I'll see if it might be a google problem rather than a CenturyLink problem.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

I'm talking to Centurylink now and they think it's a DSL problem on their end ... I'm troubleshooting with them as I type.

I can't open Google at all ...

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I read on KU that someone over there is having the same problem. You might let the CenturyLink people know it's not just you.

This is stupid. I tried uploading some pictures from my phone to my email (which is gmail) and it just will not do anything. I usually never have a problem with my phone.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

Okay, Centurylink said that they're having a system-wide problem, and of course "they're working to resolve it" ...

In the meantime, they did something to my modem that seemed to fix "my" problem, but since it's sporadic I can't say it's not going to return.

I did read the thread on KU about the same problem and mentioned to the tech support guy that others are having the same problem, too.

He did tell me that if you call them directly they will do whatever they do to your modem to "supposedly" fix the issue ... otherwise, you'll have to wait for them to finalize whatever it is they're working on.

Incidentlly, I had to go through 2 tech guys before I finally got through to someone who knew about the problem, and I was on the phone for nearly an hour.

Fingers are crossed ....

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

Oma, my iPhone was acting up, too, and when I tried to text message my kids -via- Gmail, the messages failed to send.

So, it appears the problem is pretty widespread, whatever it is ...

But, (knocks on wood) everything seems to be working now ...

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

Well, gmail worked just fine when I disconnected from wifi and went to just data plan (hate doing that). Everything worked fine, then, when I went back to wifi it started acting up.

Glad that CenturyLink acknowledged they had a problem. I usually get the dumb ones first, they just want to get you off the phone and collect their paycheck. Eventually they will transfer me to their experts --- well CenturyLink, why don't you have the experts answering the phone in the first place? DUH......

Anyhow, I'll wait and see if they fix it cause I'm leaving in a few hours & don't need to be messing on the computer in the meantime. I'm out in the heat planting some plants I got on clearance....that's how cheap I am!!!

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

I guess I was fortunate in that, everyone I talked with was very nice, however; the problem was beyond their expertise so they kept sending me up the chain until I got ahold of an IT guru.

He did tell me that my modem needs to be upgraded (he called it a model 66 based on the model number I gave him off the back of it), but it was not the source of the problem we've been experiencing.

He said there is a Centurylink store at the front of Kingwood on Kingwood Drive that would replace it at no charge if I took it in.

I'm going to upgrade, but I'll call the store first to see if they have the latest and greatest model and if it is, in fact, no charge to me.

I think I had to pay for the modem I have when I switched from Suddenlink to Centurylink after Ike.

Good luck Oma ...

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

So much for "fixing" my problem ...

It's back ....

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

It's been working this trip to gmail.

I've never had a rude experience with the people at CL, always pleasant, they just don't know how to solve the problems. I get pushed up the chain until I get the expert. I just wish they experts were the first I had to deal with, so the problem would be solved quicker.

Of course, I can't gripe too much...I have way fewer problems with CL than I did when we had Suddenlink.

Try restarting the computer -- that's what I did a couple of hours ago & it seemed to work then. Then I got off the computer for a few hours & this is my first back on.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

I would go without Internet before ever going back to Suddenlink ...

I had the worst experiences with them, both with the Interet and the TV ... customer service was awful and they always blamed my devices on the problems I was having.

Like I said, we've been with Centurylink since right after Ike and this is the first time I've ever noticed a problem ...

Oh ya', everything seems to be working right now, so maybe they've fixed the issues.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

This is BS ...

I made 5 calls to Centurylink today and spent 5 hours on the phone with them trying to resolve this.

I can't recall how many times I've jacked with my modem, at their instructions, and it's still screwed up ....

GRRRRRRR!!!!!

Oh ya', they gave me a $17 credit on my next bill for the frustration ....

FabFive --- 8 years ago -

Well at least you're making $3.50 an hour.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

^^^ They can keep the $17.00, I'd much rather they fix their DSL issues ^^^

blueherron4 --- 8 years ago -

I was on the phone with them for about 2 hours yesterday. They said that the wires are so old that the minute he touch them that they crumbled in his hands. He said that they may have to rewire the box. They put a new wire from the main box in my neihbors yard and they gave me a big CenturyLink box and a new jack.Well that was last month now I am having problems again and they are going to be here around 3:00pm to work on it.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

^^^ Blue, are you sure you're not confusing "Suddenlink" with "Centurylink"? ^^^

Unlike Suddenlink, Centurylink is DSL and the only box is the modem in your house.

FabFive --- 8 years ago -

It's hard to keep lies straight.

blueherron4 --- 8 years ago -

No it is a DSL but it is big it is 24 inches long and 14 inches wide it has two of the antenna on it.It is wired to its on line not off the phone jacks.

blueherron4 --- 8 years ago -

No we don't have Suddenlink it is Centurylink.

blueherron4 --- 8 years ago -

Pepper I hope that you and TexasOma gets everything fixed.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I've been on a very weak Wi-Fi signal up here and have had no problems with any of the Google features. This has to be strictly a CenturyLink problem. I would say CenturyLink sucks but Suddenlink sucks worse.

I better get my googling out of my system before we head home.

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

Oma, my service seems to be back to normal - hopefully Centurylink has the kinks worked out.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I've googled twice since being home and no problems yet. Crossing my fingers they have ti fixed.

blueherron4 --- 8 years ago -

I still can not google they are coming back Tuesday and work on it some more.

blueherron4 --- 8 years ago -

The phone lines are over 20 years old around here.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

Since I wrote my post 2 hours ago, it has started acting up BIGTIME!!!.

I rebooted my computer and I rebooted the modem/router and it didn't improve, so in the morning, when I'm in a less tired frame of mind, I'll give them a call.

I pay my bill on time every month and I pay their stupid outrageous charge for such poor quality internet/phone service. When I continually get the feeble excuse that 'we the end of the line and nothing WILL be done', then don't charge me so much and keep it running all the time...not just part time. If I delayed my payment or made stupid excuses for not paying the full amount, they would disconnect me and turn me over to the credit collection agencies. What they are doing to us customers is the reverse - they are not living up to their end of the bargain by providing us with mediocre service.
