We had a special election Saturday, actually the early voting has been going on for weeks now. and look at these numbers just in harris county!

HARRIS COUNTY

State Senator, District 4 (Special Election)
Steve Toth 691 votes (17.09%)
Brandon Creighton 2,009 votes(49.68%)
Michael Galloway 475 votes (11.75%)
Gordy Bunch 869 votes (21.49%)

Now look at this news story and look at all the other numbers! why!??

I just can't understand why so many want to gripe and fight about what is going on in the world today but yet they dont want to take a stand to make a difference and VOTE!!! There is no excuse takes 5 minutes of your life.

UGH sorry just really ticks me off this day and age that the polls would be this freaking LOW!

FANCY PANTS --- 11 years ago -

I understand your pain! We all need to stand up and be more responsible for what is happening in our country. Sad that so few of us could make it out to the polls to vote.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

Least we can honestly say "Our vote did count"!!!

MonzaRacer (Admin) --- 11 years ago -

I voted this past Monday...

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Something you need to remember is the politicians COUNT on people not showing up when they have these special elections.

There is another election on May 28 I think, it is a runoff election. There is absolutely no reason they could not have combined the 2 elections, except for the propositions involving money depend on a poor turnout to pass.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

I just can't take the "I didn't know excuse" on this one. THere was political signs posted everywhere and all stated "Special election on the 10th of May" I guess in the hurry of life most can't take the time to read and notice what is going on around them.

I just pray come this week and in Nov that everyone takes off the blinders and stop and vote! Please as close as this one is there is still a run off in the Harris county one alone. I am sure 10 people voting would of made the difference. JUST 10!

Now this next election is what we will see on the ballot in Nov. Special attention to the amendments/proposals those we need or dont need. If I have to get on my hands and knees and beg I will, PLEASE VOTE!

Angie, I believe you are paying to the choir here...The people you need to beg are those you meet on the street, talk to in the grocery store, encounter in your work, the friends on Facebook, your son's friends.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

Lol yep I know. Sorry was just venting my frustrations

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

That's OK Angie - I understand the need to vent. Hope it helped.

I saw signs along the road today - the next election (THE REAL ONE) is May 27th. Tell me one reason there had to be a SPECIAL ELECTION....there isn't one. It costs extra money to do a special election, so they should have combined the 2. Instead they hold one and don't publicize it so that only the people who have an direct interest in the outcome will turn out to vote. That is the hope anyway...and it works every time.

Special election was ONLY for the senate seat. The election on the 27th is for the run off on who will be on the ballot in Nov I thought.

And the media not running anything on this "republican only" election i am sure is why there was such a low turn out. Not even the newspaper ran stories until the election was over.

this is from Texas State Secretary website :

oh forgot the special election on the 10th was a senate seat for this part of Texas (multiple counties) that opened up with a retiring senator. Nothing to do with the elections for May 27th or the November ballot.

People working at my voting site cheered when I walked in. There were 4 of us voting at the moment...a CROWD for them on Saturday.

SAD!
