People make me ill.....yesterday a friend and I were brought a little 1 lb puppy about 5 weeks old. Someone found her in the woods alone and evidently dumped. They picked her up and put her in a box and set that box outside of a grocery store with a sign that said "Free Puppy" and left her there. Someone else picked her up and brought her to us, she was very hungry and exhausted.
Well, she is now safe and being cared for by myself and two other friends. We took her to the vet and had her checked out, got some puppy formula and some good food for her. We plan on fostering her until she reaches around 3 lbs then we will find a good furever home for her.
She is a mix of Beagle and Chihuahua and and should be 7-8 lbs when grown. I've been calling her Buttons because she is cute as a button.
She sure is cute. Froggie she needs to be dewormed every 2 week's for 3-4 rounds. I'm sure she is very Wormy and the deworming only kills certain life cycles of parasites. I can link you to stuff to give her. You certainly don't need parasites around the other dogs. Also this baby will be very susceptible to parvo so don't go anywhere with a large concentration of dogs you don't have to.
She started her worming medicine two days ago when we took her to the vet. She gets daily doses. She is not allowed around my other dogs right now nor is she allowed outside until she gets big enough to have her second set of shots and we can get her protected from Parvo.
I have her "nursery" set up in the study so I can keep her isolated for the time bring.
Trust me, this little love nugget is being well taken care of, I have her in a doggie stroller when she sleeps unless she is in the sleep sling, then she gets to go with me in the rest of the house.
Pepper, I'd love to keep her but we already have three dogs and of course one is my little man Hudson...the bestest little friend in the world!!
Froggie - you are going to spoil this dog as much as you have spoiled Hudson. She will be so rotten, no one will be able to satisfy her like you do. :-)
When we raise a puppy they are so self assured they are almost arrogant. It's hard not to do it. You just can't help yourself. Oma my friend raises Doxies if you're ever in the market. Hers are on the small side and some are minis. Cute colors too.
We won't be buying any dogs...if and when we decide to get a pet we'll go to the SPCA and adopt one there.
I wish we were in the mood to take a dog now and I'd talk to Froggie about this cutie...but it's still been too soon since putting Cleo down. Someday, promise, someday we'll have the patter of little paws around our place.
It's not so much the tying us down, it's the being with her for so many years...we had her 11 years, she was 14 years old. That is short for a doxie...They usually live more than 16.
That's the toughest part of having animals! We love them so much, they reciprocate....then they become ill and we all know what happens next. I say after my two Shelties go to the Rainbow Bridge I'm done! It's too heart breaking when they die..
I had a 3 lb. Maltese for 16 years, I was absolutely devastated when we had to put him to sleep. It took 4 years before I wanted another itty bitty dog(that's where my heart is...the little ones), but I have my little man Hudson now and he is, as you know, the 4 legged love of my life. I'm glad I waited for the time to be right and you will know when it's right for you.
"Buttons" was handed off to my friend for a few days, I will get her back on Tuesday. She is growing, getting stronger and more playful....her little bark is adorable. She is eating so well now and we know she will be just fine!!
I have found a home for this sweet little nugget. ACROSS THE STREET!!! YAY!! I get to see this little one grow up and be a happy little girl! I ended up getting her back on Sunday to spoil, feed, love and just generally love on. My DH even got in on the action...he's a big tough man with no heart....yeah right.
Anyway, she will go to her furever home on Friday....it's going to be a bitter sweet day for sure.
We decided after speaking with the vet today that waiting until she was 3 lbs could take a while. She will be very loved, very cared for and very wanted. I am of course just across the street if the need arises. We would rather her be in her furever home now knowing her needs will be met.
Oma, I'm already sad...she is such a good puppy...she only whines for one of three things, she is hungry, she is tired, or she needs to go potty. That's it!! She goes potty on the piddle pad 100% of the time, it's amazing! I will miss this little love dove but the neighbors are soooooooo excited to get her and I'm confident they will care for her like I have. ok....I'm really sad now.
