Asus and Acer are the best brands.

Go to this site it has a help that allows you to put in what you want your computer for and will tell you what you need on it. link title

I would go with 4gb memory and at least a 500+gb harddrive. I personally wouldn't get a touch screen, they are expensive to fix. (just fixed my regular sccreen laptop for only $40)

Whatever you purchase, get the warranty! We learned the hard way!

I may end up just getting a new tower, I have a flat screen, wireless keyboard and mouse. I use my iPad when I'm out and about....not sure, still looking into it all.

Froggie thanks you!!

Froggie - talk to the computer guy that just fixed your computer. They may can put together a new tower for you for very little.

I just got a laptop for Christmas. Got an HP ProBook. We have a computer outfit we use over on the SW side of town, have used them since the early 90s. They put this together according to my DH specs & their recommendations.

I love this thing....DH did a good job.

So, check with the computer guy and see what he recommends.

Oma, great idea....,thanks!!! I hadn't thought about that.

They have the inside info on whether certain brands and software are good or having problems. And, can make suggestions on getting the best bang for your buck.

Our guy poopoo'd Dell and Acer. Last time he guided us into a Toshiba, but said it's not as good as it once was. Your guy may have a different experience and feelings about it, but he would be the one backing his product....so go with him.

I'm at Windows 7. Our guy said to not upgrade to Windows 8 - he didn't even install it on this new one & it was available. He said it's like Vista was when it came out...not good!!

TruthKing and Pepper, you two need to take a computer class at LS-KW!! We need to get you and Froggie edumacated!!!

What's Windows 8?

I have 27 of them on my house ...

And how can you go from Windows 98 to Windows 8? Seems like a step backwards.

Froggie --- 8 years ago -

LOL.....I totally know what you are talking about Pepper......

......well......maybe

Pepper --- 8 years ago -

No, I think you got it right Froggie ...

I just upgraded to Windows 35' (Windows 27 + Windows 8) and everything seems to be working just fine now.

Wow, it even has something called "spell-check".

How cool is that?

Edited to add; Ya' really gotta' hand to those guys at Windows, I can see everything clearly now.

Froggie --- 8 years ago -
