A couple of years ago we replaced our back door, but now it's shifted in the frame and isn't sealing out the weather, so I need someone to remove it, plumb it, shim it, or do whatever it takes to fix it.

I can't say that the guy who installed it did it right, or did it wrong, I have no idea, but he's no longer around, otherwise I'd call him.

We bought it new from Lowes (in the frame) and it wasn't cheap, so it's not like I bought a cheap door.

Anyway, bottom line is I need the name (recommendation) of someone who can remove it and refit it.

As always KU2, thanks for your help ... much appreciated.

I don't have a name but it sounds like it shifts with the weather from your foundation. So even if they replace it that may not fix the problem.

Thanks FF, but I don't think the foundation has shifted. If that was the case, I think I would have noticed other issues and I haven't. But that was my first thought too.

I think when the door was replaced they didn't do a good job of plumbing it or shimming it and it's shifted on it's own weight.

i use a friend's son for all my work. he has contractors for everything you can imagine working for him. they came out and did a fine job in replacing my windows and replacing lots of wood up around the top of our old house that had rotted and the squirrels tore down. i have one more project inside and then they will be coming back to put hardy plank on the house for me. His name is Chris and his phone number is (PM ga for number). He also does great tree work. :)

Thank you, GA, I'm going to give him a call later today.

Hope you're feeling better ...

Pepper, What a relief to hear it isn't your foundation!

^^^ That could be a financial disaster ^^^

Years ago I owned a house in the Kansas City area, with a basement, and the foundation blocks cracked causing a major shift.

I remember they had to dig down below the foundation wall and basically jack the house back up from the inside and then reinforce it with concrete pillars.

I don't recall the exact cost to fix it, but it was thousands of dollars and I sure as heck don't want to go through that again!

Where in the KC area? I'm up there a good bit. Tons of family and friends in MO,NE, OK, KS, and IA. Love that part of the country.

^^^ Olathe ^^^

Olathe is located in the SW corner of KC and is the last community you pass through on I-35 heading towards Wichita.

My Son still lives in Olathe (as does the ex' in the house I mentioned earlier) and my daughter lives in Manhattan.

Much of my immediate family is scatter throughout Iowa (Clear Lake), Minnesota (Austin / MSP) and Wisconsin (Eau Claire).

I know where Olathe is.

DH considered going to work for Koch in Wichita but they couldn't make the numbers work. Same thing in Bartlesville, but again it came down to money. Even still, sometimes we regret not taking either job because life is much simpler up that way.

^^^

I worked for Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita from the mid 70's through the early 80's and Koch was one of the largest employers in town.

Seems back then, if you weren't with one of the aircraft companies people worked for Koch.

I still think Koch owns the town.
