Of chicken noodle soup. Fresh carrots, celery, garlic, pepper, chicken, bowtie noodles and broth. It was delicious.

I cooked it on the wood stove which made me so happy. I'm getting ready to start some baking tomorrow, too. Two apple pies, two pumpkin pies, and I think DH is making a pecan. My favorite is the pumpkin.

What's on your Thanksgiving menu?

We have: deviled eggs, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls, cornbread dressing (yuck), maybe some steamed carrots, turkey, and the pies.

When I was little my grandmother put so much food on the table it was shocking. There were so many choices it seemed like you got a bit of each before you were too full. As much as I miss that, it seems like a lot of work. We keep it simple. Maybe when they kids are older and can help out more we will branch out LOL

Man, that soup sounds so yummy about right now!! Here's my menu, I'm feeding 13 people this year.

Mashed potatoes
Sweet potatoes
Green bean casserole

Candied carrots
Deviled eggs

Apple pie
Fruit salad
Rolls
Gravy

I don't think I forgot anything....

That fruit salad sounds delicious.

Our daughter has found some things in the weight watchers cookbooks that she wants to try for our meal. It's just the 3 of us, so we try to not over do the food. We are sticking to our diet and going to eat well. So DD and I will start coming around noon to eat about 2.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

On my plate will be turkey, cranberry, some veggies and that's it. I think it can be done..... I hope LOL

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

DD wants to make a chicken dish, grilled zucchini, baked sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and salad. The zucchini and salad are zero points and the rest do not add up to our daily allowed.

I did get the making for dressing for hubby, he shouldn't suffer cause we are trying to get skinny.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

That all sounds so yummy!!

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

I don't usually make a turkey, but when I do I just do a turkey breast.

I have done duck, Cornish hens, ham, chicken, steaks...whatever suits my fancy. I usually do the cooking but since DD wants to do it (she wants to learn to cook) in be on standby to guide her.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

That's great that she wants to learn. My oldest wants to learn too put considering she can't take lasagna out of the oven without burning herself I think it will be awhile. Our second daughter will probably be the first to learn.

We are feeding our seven plus MIL and FIL. Unfortunately DH is working on Thursday so we are doing ours on Friday. We have a similar situation with Christmas this year. We aren't opening until the 27th.

Does everyone use canned cream of mushroom in their green bean casserole? I was hoping to find an alternative.....

Fancy is your chocolate pie light and fluffy or one of the thick and dense kind? Yum O.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

I don't like green beans so have never eaten green bean casserole.....yuck!!! I love almost all vegetables but green beans are a no-no to my taste buds.

I would think you could make your own cream of mushroom by using heavy cream or even just milk and make a white gravy, then add sauteed mushrooms and your seasonings. It would be no different than making cream of broccoli soup from scratch except you would be using mushrooms.

Froggie --- 11 years ago -

Yes Fab, I use the canned soup but making it from scratch is something I've never thought about....hmmmmm

Maybe next year, I'll have to try out a homemade recipe first.

@FabFive I usually use cream of celery, I don't care for canned mushrooms. I think I've also used cream of chicken.

My chocolate pie is thick and has meringue.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

Oh my. You sold me at meringue. My stomach is rumbling thinking about it.
