Okay so I have allergies in my eyes, there almost always puffy and have dark circles, UGG! I use prescription eye drops and ointments to help....a little, even cold compresses in the am.

What do you all use and do you have any recommendations??

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

I don't use anything but I would like to know the answer. I just use moisturizer.

whatchamacallit --- 11 years ago -

Try eating local honey, just a teaspoon or two a day will help with allergies and should help to clear up the whole eye thing for you! As for external, I've always used cucumber slices for puffy eyes. Works great! Also, salty food is BAD and will make you puffy all over. Ever notice how your eyes and face look the morning after eating pizza?!?! WOW

Ex-Lady In Blue (Admin) --- 11 years ago -

You are probably allergic to any of the number of things (chemicals) that are in the products you are using. Stop buying something that "smells good", because chances are, chemicals make up that smell. I saw a DIY cucumber eye cream.

Maybe you can try this.

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

Thank you all! Lady in Blue, I try to avoid any products that have any scent at all. I do like the idea of trying a cucumber salve, even chilling it!?

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

Hahaha, as soon as the rain lets up I plan on getting a cucumber and the aloe ingredients.

Ex-Lady In Blue (Admin) --- 11 years ago -

Be sure to be careful of the "unscented" products, too, because they still have chemicals in it. Read the label; if it looks like a science paper and you cannot pronounce the name of the ingredients (and they don't sound Latin/technical names) then stay away from it. And the only drops I would be putting in my eyes would be pure saline, and nothing else. Most of the OTC salines actually have a preservative in them, too, and many people are allergic to that.

If you're going to make the cucumber eye cream, make sure it is an organic cucumber, and that the aloe vera gel is pure gel, and does not include alcohol in it, like more of them do, and of course organic aloe vera would be that much better!

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

I would love to but where do you find all these local ingredients, locally?

Ex-Lady In Blue (Admin) --- 11 years ago -

Try A Gift of Health (Atascosita, by 24 Hr Fitness), The Natural Kitchen (W. Lake Houston/N. Park, next to Skeeters), and Vitamins and Such, near Steinmart.

I have used local honey in my tea for the past 20 years because of allergies. As a result, I do not have allergies.

If you don't like tea you can mix honey with peanut butter and spread it on bread. It is so good that way. You only have to take 1 teaspoon a day.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

I use avon products only. Anything else has some type of ingredient in it that breaks me out. I am wondering if they have Salicylate in it. I really try to look for this stuff in everything now. That and any plant products. I am highly allergic to latex which is made from pine trees. I stay clear of tree anything.

this time of year allergies are high. Ragweed and pines are in full bloom. I would go to an allergy dr and get all the tests done. Tis how I found I am allergic to every tree they test for!

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

And Randalls, krogers and HEB all have local honey for sale in the stores.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

Allergies of Salicylate.. check it out! :)

My gdson has allergies so bad. I am going to call dd tonight and tell her about this as she has them too. Where do you get local honey?

try the store, all of them sell it, look for the bluebonnet brand its made local.

Meme (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Thanks ak. I will be at HEB tomorrow so I will get some for them. Can they just take a teaspoon a day? Just plain?

FANCY PANTS --- 11 years ago -

My gdson has allergies so bad. I am going to call dd tonight and tell her about this as she has them too.

Honey would be great for him. If he is taking a histamine blocker the honey will not give him immunity to allergies. So, your DD has to give it to him when he is not taking something like Claritin.

I first started using honey when I lived in Austin. I would get sick for like 3 months every spring. I started using local honey and the next year I didn't get sick and have never had allergies again.

Where do you get local honey?

When we moved here I found a local bee keeper and have gotten my honey from him for 18 years. I got it at the store one time because I ran out and for some reason I did not like it. So if you do not like what you get at the store try a local bee keeper. Go to the Harris County Beekeeper Assoc. webpage. http://www.harriscountybeekeepers.org/

FANCY PANTS --- 11 years ago -

Yes, he can.

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

I have a honey and peanut butter sandwich every day, doesn't make an allergy difference! But I will get the aloe and cucumber for the eyes to try it!

I sneeze very little, my nose runs very little, I cough little, so I thought for a long time that my puffy eyes and dark circles were due to aging and may be a little too much wine! Then I visited my DD's Opthamologist and he told me its allergies :/

Is it local honey? Also, you can not be taking a med like Claritin, it will keep the honey from doing it's job.

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

I think it's local honey, and I haven't been taking any allergy meds except for the eye drops! Tomorrow I will go to one of the KW vitamin stores to get the aloe.

TexasOma (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Kayry-----the cleaners we use on Kingwood Dr. has some local honey. It's in the same shopping center as the new Fish Tales (old Farm to Market). I don't remember the name, I think it's called A-1 Cleaners (been using them for years and don't know their name). It's right next door to Master Tailors).

Anyhow, go in and ask if they have any honey today. It's reasonably priced and the beekeepers live right here in the area.

Ex-Lady In Blue (Admin) --- 11 years ago -

Believe it or not, you need to make sure you have "raw", unprocessed honey to get the full benefit for allergies. More than likely, the stuff FANCYPANTS is getting is raw.

For those of you buying it in the grocery store, please be aware there was a big expose about honey several months ago. It seems that there are MANY beekeepers that are feeding the bees nasty, disgusting corn syrup, that is made from GMO corn, I might add. Yuch, yuck, yuck! Know your beekeeper!

And, AngieKaye, Avon is one of the worst offenders for creating products with known cancer causing chemicals in them. They refuse to remove these unsafe chemicals from their products. You couldn't pay me to use their products!

FANCY PANTS --- 11 years ago -

Yes, Lady in blue, it has to be raw honey.

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

Thank you all for the great suggestions and cautions. I'll be looking all of them after I go work out and get my sweat on ;)

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

I went to the Natural Kitchen this morning and the owner persuaded me to try Sovereign Silver spray around my eyes along with aloe! What do you all think of Sovereign Silver?

Ashley --- 11 years ago -

I use Avalon Organics .. You can get it at HEB in the organic section. It comes in an orange bottle and has vitamin c and sunscreen in it, and wont clog your pores. It actually cleared my skin up .. I didn't have bad acne, but I would break out a little here and there. I was running so much that the sweat was drying out my skin, making me break out. I was also washing it too much, which can also break you out. Now that I keep it moisturized, my skin is really clear .. My Husband even complimented my complexion in the morning before putting on any makeup! lol. They better NEVER discontinue this stuff! The only thing is .. If you put it too close to your eyes .. It can make your eyes water a little bc of the vitamin c .. I use it around my eyes though too, so that I will never get wrinkles :) haha.

Kayry --- 11 years ago -

Thanks Ashley, I'll look into it! :))
