Has anyone ever dehydrated fish, before? I am not doing it for me, it would be for dog treats. How sad is that???

In particular, it would most likely be salmon. I am doing it for a friend of mine. I have a Excalibur dehydrator. I know there are tons of recipes online, but I was looking for someone with firsthand experience.

I would google something about Alaska. The subsistence people do this as a matter of survival for their dogs so I guarantee you they know how to do it right. As far as personal experience, sorry, I don't have any. I would like to know more about it though so hope someone else chimes in.

I have to laugh, because I originally bought the dehydrator for ME, but so far, all I have used it for was to make dog treats. So far I have made dehydrated sweet potatoes, and some dog treats that were ground turkey and sweet potatoes. Some of my dogs like the sweet potatoes, and some will pass them up, unless that's the only thing offered. Now, the turkey/sweet potato treats were a HUGE hit so I have a request to make more of those, mainly by my pet sitter friend.

Eventually, I will get around to making some things for me!

I usually just leave the fish on the dock- eventually, they dehydrate.

Which part, the dehydrating fish, or the part about me starting to dehydrate things for myself, instead of my dogs. ;-)

The fish idea for dog treats.

I usually throw back the trash fish I catch....like hard heads and gaff tops.

Now, I'll keep a few of the bigger ones and make doggie treats out of them.

I'll be doing the dogs a favor and I'll be doing my fellow anglers a favor by ridding the bay of a few more trashy fish.
